The two wires used in a thermocouple are called thermocouple wires or thermocouple conductors. These wires have specific characteristics suitable for temperature measurement. They are made of materials with different thermal properties, called thermocouple alloys.

The use of two wires in a thermocouple is essential for accurate temperature measurement. Here are the reasons why thermocouples use two wires:

1. Measurement principle: The basic principle of thermocouples is the Seebeck effect, that is, when there is a temperature gradient at the junction of two different metals, a voltage difference will occur. To exploit this effect, two wires made of different thermocouple alloys are used. The voltage difference between the two wires is proportional to the temperature difference, allowing for accurate temperature measurements.

2. Compensation: One of the main reasons for using two wires is to compensate for the temperature of the connecting wires. The wires connecting the thermocouple to the measuring instrument also experience temperature gradients. By using a second wire made of the same thermocouple alloy but of a different length, the temperature of the joint can be accurately measured by compensating for the voltage developed in the connecting wire.

3. Accuracy: Using two wires improves the accuracy of temperature measurement. Using two different thermocouple alloys helps minimize errors caused by changes in material properties at different temperatures. This improves the reliability and accuracy of temperature measurements.

4. Improve sensitivity: Using two wires also improves the sensitivity of the thermocouple. It can output a larger voltage in response to temperature changes, making it easier to accurately detect small temperature changes.

5. Easy to install: Two-wire thermocouples are easier to install and use. Two wires can be easily connected to measuring instruments or control systems, ensuring a safe and reliable connection.
